Info

Thank you for your interest in piano lessons! Please review the following payment information, policies, and practice guidelines.

Rates - effective September 2021 - In Person or Virtual:

$28 for 30 minutes

$42 for 45  minutes

$56 for 60 minutes

$84 for 90 minutes

Payment for the month is due the first lesson of the month. (Please note: most months have 4 weeks, but some have 5 weeks).

Lessons which are missed for any reason will still be charged, as that time was already reserved for the student. I am reserving that time spot for the student and the same commitment is expected from the student.

Having said that, if my schedule allows, I will try to accommodate reschedule requests with sufficient advance notice for things such as special events, vacations, and business trips.

I use the Alfred Piano Library or Faber Piano Method, and may add in other supplemental books "just for fun" or as needed to improve finger coordination and playing skills. I do accept young students (4-5 years old) up to adults. Young students should come with a parent to the first lesson, and I ask that parents drop off the student for the following lessons.

If we have virtual lessons it is important that the house is quiet (no TV or radio, etc) and there are minimal interruptions/distractions during the lesson (barking dogs go outside, siblings or friends play quietly, etc). A parent or guardian is required to be in the home during the lesson.

Learning to play the piano well requires diligence in practicing and perseverance through challenging techniques and finger coordination. Learning piano will be much more enjoyable for the student if they are personally motivated to learn or at least already have a general curiosity of music.

I recommend the beginning student  practice an assigned song a certain number of times each day (3-4x times in a row) and build up to about 20 minutes of practice daily. As the student progresses, practice time will gradually increase to 30-45 minutes. Incorporating practice time into the daily routine will provide the consistency that is needed!

Your piano needs to be tuned regularly, probably once per year. A piano tuner can give you more specific recommendations regarding tuning & care of your piano. A keyboard with pedals and weighted keys is an acceptable substitute if you are not ready to buy a piano. A lamp on or near the piano will be helpful for reading music. If your child has reading glasses please make sure they bring them to lessons.
